It is hot out so I thought I would look through old pictures for a summer day of old. Found this one of my father, Charles; or Charlie, as all his friends knew him. It was taken in 1974, which means he was 64 years old in this picture! He looks pretty cool for 64!
My father was not big into fun days like the beach - mainly because it meant he had a lot of kids "breathin' down his neck" on the car ride to Hampton Beach. That is where we usually went - Hampton Beach. There was a state park there that charged to park. There were public restrooms and a whole lot of sandy beach for us to run around, scream, build sand castles and ride the surf. There was also a jetty where we went to pick starfish and look for shells.
In the foreground, on the pile of towels was my dad's hat. He always wore a hat, necessary with that haircut of his! The blanket he is sitting on is an old car blanket out of a chamois type material that was always around when we were kids. That thing always got dragged places - the beach, picnics, or wherever a blanket might be needed. That thing lasted for years!
It's really funny all of the details you can start to remember when you look at these old photos. The thing about those memories are that they can bring back a sensation, a feeling of being back in that time and place; but those details generally mean squat to someone else unless they were in that time and place as well. But it does sometimes give someone the spark of a memory all their own and then they too are time traveling back to when . . . the waves are comin' in!

Good old Hampton beach. I think we should rent a beach house there and go for a family trip. We'll show Adam a taste of the good life.
I think it would be funny to take a picture of Adam sitting on an old blank with sunglasses like those. Hahaha - you're right, he's so much like Grampa. It's eery!
